SwaddleMe Stage 1 Swaddle
Our SwaddleMe Stage 1 Swaddle gives new parents peace of mind during those critical first months. We designed this swaddle specifically for newborns from birth to 3 months, with adjustable wing flaps that create a secure womb-like feeling your baby naturally craves.
The signature design features arm and leg pockets that keep your little one in a natural sleep position while preventing the startle reflex that disrupts rest. Our easy-wrap design means no complicated folding or tucking — just lay baby down, wrap the wings, and secure with the hook-and-loop closures.
We use soft, breathable 100% cotton fabric that's gentle on newborn skin and maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the night. The integrated swaddle pouch allows safe hip movement while keeping arms securely wrapped, following pediatric safe sleep guidelines.
What makes Stage 1 special

Fabric & Construction Details
We construct every SwaddleMe Stage 1 from premium 100% cotton that breathes naturally and regulates temperature. The soft jersey knit stretches just enough to accommodate movement without loosening throughout the night.
Our double-stitched seams withstand hundreds of wash cycles, and we reinforce every stress point where the wing flaps attach. The hook-and-loop closures are commercial-grade and maintain their grip even after repeated washing. We pre-wash all fabric to minimize shrinkage and ensure the fit stays true to our size guidelines.

How to Use Your Stage 1 Swaddle
Getting the Right Fit
Lay the swaddle flat with the opening facing you and place your baby on their back with shoulders just below the top edge. The integrated leg pouch should reach your baby’s feet without excess fabric bunching at the bottom.
Place your baby’s arms inside the pouch or alongside their body, depending on their preference. Wrap the left wing across their chest and tuck it snugly under their right side, then bring the right wing over and secure it with the hook-and-loop fastener. The fit should be snug around the arms and chest but loose around the hips.
Sizing & When to Transition
The SwaddleMe Stage 1 fits most newborns from 7 to 14 pounds and accommodates babies from birth through approximately 3 months. We designed the adjustable wings to grow with your baby during this stage, allowing you to customize the fit as they gain weight.
You’ll know it’s time to size up when the wing flaps no longer overlap comfortably or when your baby’s legs feel cramped in the pouch. Most parents transition to our Original Swaddle or a transitional sleep sack around 3-4 months, depending on their baby’s size and development.

Common Questions About the SwaddleMe Stage 1
The SwaddleMe Stage 1 is specifically sized for newborns from birth to 3 months and 7-14 pounds, with a snugger fit and smaller proportions ideal for tiny babies. Our Original Swaddle fits babies 3-6 months and 14-18 pounds with a roomier design.
Both feature the same adjustable wing flaps and secure closure system. We recommend starting with Stage 1 for newborns to ensure the most secure, womb-like fit during the earliest weeks.
The Stage 1 swaddle is designed for arms-down swaddling, which works best for newborns with strong startle reflexes. If your baby consistently resists having their arms contained, you might consider transitioning to our Arms Free design earlier.
Some babies do prefer arms up from birth. We find that most newborns sleep better with arms secured in the early weeks, but every baby is different. If your little one fights the swaddle consistently, listen to their cues.
We recommend having at least two SwaddleMe Stage 1 swaddles in rotation, though many parents prefer three or four. Newborns can go through multiple swaddles per day due to diaper leaks and spit-up, and you'll want a clean one available while others are in the wash.
Having extras ensures you're never caught without a swaddle during crucial sleep times. Most families find that three swaddles provide enough flexibility without over-buying for a product they'll use for just a few months.
Yes, our SwaddleMe Stage 1 meets all CPSC safety standards and follows AAP safe sleep guidelines. Always place your swaddled baby on their back to sleep in a crib or bassinet with no loose bedding, pillows, or toys.
Stop using the swaddle immediately when your baby shows any signs of rolling over, typically around 8-12 weeks. The design allows healthy hip development while preventing the startle reflex, making it safe for nighttime use when guidelines are followed.
Our commercial-grade hook-and-loop closures are designed to withstand hundreds of uses and wash cycles. We reinforce the attachment points and use industrial-strength fasteners that maintain their grip throughout the product's lifespan.
To maximize longevity, close the fasteners before washing and avoid fabric softeners, which can reduce their effectiveness. Most families use their Stage 1 swaddles daily for 2-3 months without any decrease in holding power.
Absolutely. The integrated leg pouch is intentionally roomy to allow natural hip and leg movement, following pediatric guidelines for healthy hip development. Your baby's legs can bend and flex freely while their arms stay securely wrapped.
This design prevents developmental hip issues while still providing the secure upper-body containment that reduces startle reflexes. The leg pouch should never feel tight or restrictive around your baby's hips and thighs.
Our 100% cotton Stage 1 swaddle is appropriate for room temperatures between 68-72°F. Dress your baby in a lightweight onesie or diaper underneath, depending on the room temperature, to prevent overheating.
Check your baby's chest or back to ensure they're not too warm — they should feel comfortable to the touch, not sweaty or hot. The breathable cotton regulates temperature naturally, but always adjust your baby's clothing layers based on your specific environment.
